The Iran Radiopharmaceutical Development and Production Center (TETRA) marks a major step forward for the nation’s scientific and healthcare sectors. Launched in 2018 and still under development, this landmark project is more than a state-of-the-art facility—it is the architectural and technological expression of a national vision. With its mission to expand Iran’s capacity for producing life-saving radiopharmaceuticals, TETRA is set to transform Radio medicine, reshaping diagnostics and treatments both within the country and across the region. Once fully operational, it will place Iran among the world’s leading producers of radiopharmaceuticals, a milestone in the nation’s path toward scientific independence and global recognition in the pharmaceutical industry.

Strategic Oversight and Precision Engineering

The project is overseen directly by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), ensuring that every stage—from design to implementation—meets national priorities and the highest standards of safety, quality, and precision. TETRA’s construction reflects an uncompromising commitment to excellence. Its structural engineering and finishing details have been executed with tolerances that exceed standard regulations, a necessity for a facility where operational integrity and environmental safety are paramount.

A Fusion of Local Vision and Global Expertise

TETRA combines domestic ambition with international collaboration. Renowned contractors from Italy, China, and Belgium are contributing to the installation and commissioning of highly specialized equipment. This partnership ensures that the center will operate at the level of the world’s most advanced facilities, blending global innovation with national expertise.

Core Capabilities: Expanding Production and Innovation

At the heart of TETRA lies a powerful technological infrastructure. The facility houses two advanced cyclotrons, essential for producing the radioisotopes that underpin Radio medicine. These feed into:

  • Six production lines for pharmaceutical kits
  • Five integrated lines for advanced radiopharmaceutical synthesis

This dual capacity enables both large-scale production of existing agents and the development of new compounds. Once operational, TETRA will boost Iran’s radiopharmaceutical output by 700%, meeting all domestic demand and positioning the country as the region’s largest producer. The center also establishes a foundation for next-generation research and production in PET and SPECT imaging, fully aligned with EU-GMP standards.

Commitment to Global Standards and Sustainability

From the outset, TETRA has been designed to exceed international benchmarks. Its systems comply with the world’s most rigorous standards, ensuring readiness for global markets. Fire protection and life safety systems follow NFPA guidelines, while critical equipment carries UL and FM certifications.

Sustainability is also central to the design. The nine-story building incorporates a Heat Recovery system that captures and reuses waste heat, reducing energy consumption and minimizing environmental impact.

Intelligent Design and Infrastructure

The 34,000-square-meter main building balances advanced laboratories with human-centered spaces. The top three floors house modern administrative offices, while the rooftop offers a landscaped garden, coffee shop, amphitheater, and gazebo—spaces designed to support staff well-being and collaboration.

Below ground, specialized laboratories are safeguarded with advanced shielding, ventilation, and containment systems. The facility’s climate is managed by 117 high-capacity Air Handling Units, ensuring precise conditions for cleanrooms and laboratories.

A centralized Building Management System (BMS) monitors and controls all mechanical and electrical systems in real time, optimizing energy use and maintaining safety. Utility lines are routed through dedicated walkable corridors, simplifying maintenance and ensuring long-term reliability.

A Catalyst for Progress

The TETRA center is more than a building—it is a symbol of scientific ambition and a cornerstone of national health. By combining advanced technology, international expertise, and sustainable design, it positions Iran as a leader in Radio medicine and medical innovation on the global stage.
