Shaping a New Era of Healthcare in the Middle East
Rising 136 meters above the Tehran skyline, Atiyeh 2 Hospital is more than a medical facility—it is an architectural landmark and a bold vision for the future of healthcare. This 36-story complex, now under construction, is set to become the world’s tallest hospital and the largest, most advanced medical center in the Middle East.
With a built-up area of nearly 190,000 square meters and the capacity to serve 700 inpatients, Atiyeh 2 is designed as a complete ecosystem of healing, innovation, and patient-centered care. It sets a new global benchmark by combining advanced medical technology, world-class engineering, and a holistic approach to wellness under one roof.
Notably, it is the first project in Iran fully designed and executed using a true Building Information Modeling (BIM) framework, ensuring unmatched precision, efficiency, and lifecycle management—hallmarks of a hospital built for the 21st century.
The hospital’s engineering is as remarkable as its scale. Its 35,000-ton steel superstructure is secured entirely with high-strength Tension Control (TC) bolts, guaranteeing reliability in every critical joint.
To address seismic risks, the building incorporates 432 advanced rotational friction dampers from the Danish firm DAMPTECH. These devices act as shock absorbers, dissipating earthquake energy to protect the structure, safeguard vital equipment, and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
The foundation required equally complex solutions: piles driven up to 50 meters deep on the southern side and advanced anchoring techniques elsewhere, creating a stable base for the towering structure. Beneath it, nine underground floors provide 1,500 parking spaces, meeting the logistical needs of a hospital of this scale.
Atiyeh 2 is designed as a hub of medical excellence, offering a full spectrum of specialized services. It will feature:
This integrated model ensures seamless collaboration between departments and a smooth patient journey from diagnosis to recovery.
Atiyeh 2 redefines the hospital experience by dedicating two floors to wellness and rehabilitation. Facilities include a swimming pool and a modern fitness center, supporting physical therapy, patient recovery, and staff well-being. This forward-thinking approach recognizes that true healing extends beyond medical treatment.
The hospital’s operations are supported by a sophisticated network of systems:
The project’s success is closely tied to Payasazeh Pasargad, which began work in 2015 on the foundation phase and later assumed responsibility for all executive operations. Over time, the company evolved from contractor to strategic partner and investor, acquiring 4,350 square meters of clinical office space and 61 shares in therapeutic services, including pharmacy, physiotherapy, ICU, and radiotherapy. This long-term commitment ensures sustained excellence in both construction and operation.
Even before completion, Atiyeh 2 has earned international recognition. In 2018, it received Rank 1 in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and was named Top Steel Structure Project at the 3rd International Conference on Structure & Steel—clear evidence of its engineering excellence and commitment to safety.
But its true legacy lies ahead. Atiyeh 2 is not just a building; it is a symbol of progress, a beacon of hope, and a catalyst for change in regional healthcare. With its visionary scale, pioneering engineering, and dedication to patient well-being, it is poised to become a world-class institution, delivering the future of medicine to Iran and the Middle East.
